As of August 25th, Gabe officially became a kindergartener! He goes to Bauershlag Elementary just around the corner from our house. We prepped Gabe all summer long for kindergarten by making sure he finished his preschool workbook, could read basic words, and by simply shouting out "there's Gabe's Kindergarten!!" every time we drove by the school. But most importantly, I told Gabe he had to stop sucking his thumb before he started kindergarten. And guess what?! He did it! All by himself, cold turkey. What a good boy! We bought him a train from toys r us as a reward.
I thought Gabe would be a little anxious the first day of kindergarten but he did great! He didn't want mommy and little sister hanging around for too long--new crayons and coloring pages are much more exciting! I was a little sad to leave Gabie for so long (7 hours is a loooong day for a 5-year-old); I've never left him for that long.
So far Gabe is doing very well in his class. His teacher says he is one of 2 kids in his class that can read. He looooves his art class, learning to write, and buying lunches. He's a little shy and quirky but a very well-behaved and VERY smart little boy. I sure miss Gabie during the day! I also hate waiting in a long line to drop and pick him up. I can't believe Gabe is already a kindergartener--he is growing up too fast! He really enjoys school and especially picking out prizes from the prize box with his "bear bucks'. Elisa handled Gabe being gone all day better than I thought she would--even better now that she's started preschool, but for awhile there she was watching Thomas the Train movies during the day--her silly way of "mourning" her missing her playmate!
Not interested in little sister hugs! Must color!
I get mommy allllll to myself!!
