Utah Trip

We were supposed to be enjoying a fun cruise, but since it was Covid Season Part II the cruise was cancelled. Erik had some days off, so we decided to use that time to head up to Utah to visit family. The kids get out of school early most Fridays so we headed up there as soon as they got home. They had to wait about 10 extra minutes for me to get all my stuff together, including my guinea pig, Minnie. Haha yep I brought her with. I put her in a cardboard box with her food, water, and hay. I didn't bring her just for fun, though. I asked Makayla ahead of time if she could drop the guinea pig off at the animal sanctuary that is out in Kanab and she said sure. I had posted Minnie on Craigslist to sell, but I wasn't getting any takers. We arrived in St. George pretty late (as usual).

We spent all of Saturday (September 4) in St. George. The kids of course insisted on eating at Chuck-a-rama. I don't mind eating there. Most of the food isn't too bad. The kids sure love going to visit Grandma and Grandpa! Or at least, swimming in their pool!

Pigging out

Ian is so cute and silly!

Back at Grandma and Grandpa's house, Elisa printed out her (and Ian's) script for the play I signed them up for. They are doing Tangled and Elisa got the lead role (Rapuzel! She shares it with another girl) and Ian got the role of Ben, one of the twin ruffians.

Minnie and the bunny were instant best friends!

A trip to St. George wouldn't be complete without a swim in Grandma and Grandpa's pool!

The next day (Sunday the 5th) we headed up to Cedar City to visit my family. Mark and Cindy/Tootsie came, too! My mom, Cindy, and Elisa and I went to the French Spot for a little chocolate mousse. If you've never tried their chocolate mousse, you're missing out because it is the best ever.
Then we went back to the house and managed to bribe Michael to take a bite of cat food (chew and swallow) for $30 cash in front of all of us. Haha, he actually did it! The rest of the day was spent going through stuff, watching the kids play, and just hanging out.

Enjoying some treats at the French Spot in downtown Cedar City.

Michael trying cat food. LOL.

We spent the night and the next day (Monday the 6th), we went back to the French Spot, this time Erik in place of Elisa. But first, a stop at The Grind for some coffee for Tootsie. There was a little book store connected to the coffee shop that we browsed for a bit, but we didn't buy anything. Erik bought (more) chocolate mouse and some macarons. The macarons were really big. They were good, but not as good as the ones that we've had here in Phoenix. Erik ordered pizza from Centro Woodfired Pizzeria. Our usual Pizza Cart was closed that day (Labor Day) and we wanted to try out this place anyway. The pizza was kind of expensive (more than Pizza Cart) and we didn't like it too much. It was a bit dry and sparse. I guess that will be the one and only time we try that place!

Pizza time!

Later that same day, we went back to St. George since we had to leave the next day. For dinner, we went to Red Lobster with Bryce and Makayla. The kids had another swim in the pool that evening and were highly amused by the doggy swimming in the pool.

Red Lobster. I wasn't too hungry so I just mooched off of whoever was willing to throw food on my plate.

Ian is a big fish!

Swim, doggy, swim!

The next day (Tuesday the 7th) before we left Erik made sure include two ill-fated car rides that morning. The first was a ride in Grandpa's Porsche, which broke down (some wires became disconnected) somewhere in town not too long after taking it out. Erik wanted to go to Toquerville falls but he read that the roads were rough getting there so he took Ian and Elisa in the Jeep and Gabe and I went in the SUV with Grandma and Grandpa. Rough roads they were. They were so bad that we gave up not even halfway there. There were some parts the even the Jeep had a really hard time getting past. I saw Ian bouncing around in the back of that Jeep like a sock in the dryer and I was getting a headache and hungry so I was more than ready to turn around and was happy when we did. Unfortunately the Jeep pooped out so we had to haul the Jeep behind the SUV which made us not only go slower but we had to take the backroads back to the house. When we got back, we loaded all of our stuff into our van and met up with Grandma and Grandpa for some yummy lunch at Angelica's. We drove home from there and got back home somewhere between 7-8pm:

Erik getting into the Porshe

Our brains were scrambled by the extremely rough dirt road. We were basically driving over rocks.

Poor Ian got tossed around so much!

Yum!

Gabe and Elisa found Ian's car snooze amusing. Haha he is so cute and silly!

Random August Happenings, Part 3

The last set of pictures of the fun stuff we did in the month of August:

August 16
I finally finished my lavender olive oil from the lavender I harvested and dried at Lisa's in Utah. I put all the pictures here so you can see the process. It was easy, just a lot of waiting. I waited two weeks for the lavender to dry, and then put the dried flowers into a glass jar. When I got home, I filled that jar up with 100% pure virgin olive oil and let it sit on the windowsill covered with a brown napkin (I was supposed to use a brown bag but I didn't have any) and wait two weeks. When that two week was up, I used cheese cloth to separate the flowers from the oil. I used an old oil bottle (with a dropper) and another small glass bottle. It smells really good! I mostly use it for my face but it can also be used for cooking, though I'm not sure how much of the lavender flavor will transfer to food. It probably wouldn't be noticeable.

August 18
The boys made a HUGE Lego mess in the loft. It got cleaned up eventually. Here's Ian in the midst of the mess, wearing a shirt that Gabe wore in 1st grade. It's too small on Ian!
************************************************************

August 21
I came downstairs one Saturday morning to find silly Ian dressed like this. He was wearing his old too-small Mario costume from last year, but ended up looking like a hillbilly from Arkansas who has misplaced his straw hat and banjo.

August 21
What was Gabe crying about this time? I can't remember and neither can he.
********************************************************

August 23
A lovely picture of Ian's wart, turned inside out! Haha so gross. I ordered wart remover bandaids and Ian wore them for a few weeks. We changed out the bandaid every other day. It didn't go away 100%, but I would say that it is about 75% gone now. I wish I would have taken a before and after picture, but instead I took a middle picture! Bleechh.

August 23
A collage of Elisa's improve dancing she performed for us one night. Silly girl. She never told us she liked dancing, even when she was in dance class.

August 25
I made Gabe a hoodie for when it get cold. I lengthened the arms by at least an inch to accommodate Gabe's super long arms. Other then that, it looks like your average hoodie.

August 27
A picture taken for no reason other than Ian is a cutie!

August 29
We got lots of beef from our bishop and his family who raise steer every now and then, and sometimes pigs too! I am buying the meat with piano lessons instead of cash.

August 29
Iand and his belly with stuff all over his face. So cute!

August 31
We rented a clarinet for Elisa from Music & Arts. Its only $30 a month but that sure adds up fast. She loves playing the clarinet, at least now until the novelty of it wears off, and then I'm sure she'll gladly ignore it.

Random August Happenings, Part 2

....And more fun things we did in the month of August!

August 11
I bought a plain blue shirt for Gabe at Walmart for a couple of bucks and added a freezer paper transfer of Gabe's late frog.

August 11
Elisa started clarinet in band! I let her use my old clarinet but the corks were disintegrating so instead of paying $30 each cork to fix, I ordered some thin corkboard over Amazon and cut and glued the cork on myself. Did it work? Yes, for about a week until the new cork flaked off. So we rented Elisa a clarinet instead. I think eventually I'll get my old clarinet re-corked, but hey it was worth a shot to attempt to fix myself.

August 12
I made Elisa a new dress using soft, stretchy, and slightly shimmery fabric from the clearance bin at Walmart. She kind of helped me design it. Here she is modeling her new dress, which she does actually wear on occasion!
**********************************************************
August 13
We had a pretty good monsoon show this year! It was neat to see the sky light up like crazy.
***********************************************************

August 13
I found Ian sleeping sideways in his bed when I went to check on him. So cute!
**********************************************************

August 14
We were all invited to Ian's friend Edmond's birthday party who turned 7. We had a good time eating and filling up on cake. The kids swam in the pool and enjoyed one another's company. We got Edmond a geode-smashing kit, a swiggle pen drawing game, and a small Lego set.
*****************************************************

August 13
I made Elisa a cold-shoulder shirt. It was supposed to be a dress but she insisted on a top even though I had already cut the top for a dress, but I copied one of my own shirts which had an extra piece at the bottom. I think it turned out ok in the end. She likes to wear it.
*******************************************************

August 15
I tried to get a picture of Gabe's profile while we were sitting on the couch. He's a cute kid for sure!
********************************************************************

August 15
Adorable Ian was obsessed with this song and wanted to sing his little heart out!
*****************************************************************

August 15
I made a baked peach pie. Too bad the crust I got (Simple Truth Organic) was nasty, otherwise it might have been a good pie.
