But first, here is little miss America in her patriotic ensemble. Isn't she the cutest?! This momma couldn't resist making her little princess a dress and matching necklace for the holiday!
Our first stop was the Friendswood parade. It was sorely disappointed in it, but at least it was something to do. Too many cars and vehicles and not enough (actually, not any) candy throwing! Plus it was too hot. But that's to be expected here in the swamp. I mean, bayou.
Gabe was dressed in his 4th of July best too! He liked the parade more than I did, probably because he's a boy and for some reason boys find automobiles fascinating!
Next up, we went over to the League City Park for a 4th of July celebration League City was hosting. It was totally my type of thing because all the food was free! Luckily, we got there right when it opened so we didn't have to wait too long for the lines. We got free hotdogs, pop, water, popcorn, and cotton candy. They were also giving out snow cones but we didn't catch the line in time for it to be a reasonable wait.
Here are the kids enjoying their cotton candy. There were also some bounce houses and a petting zoo that the kids enjoyed (I thought I got some pictures of those but I guess not..?). And of course the park. And a band was playing. And the turtle pond. Yes, the kids sure had their fill of fun!
We went home and Elisa had a nap (or did she...? I can't remember now! Probably not). Then we headed over to a friend's house for dinner and swimming (well, swimming for the kids). It was fun to catch up with friends, but not fun to eat a ton after being starving hungry! That leads to a major food coma :S And, as a parting gift, our friends sent us home with two Papa Johns pizzas! We have awesome friends. Either that, or they had way more food then they needed. Or both :)
Last but not least, we headed home to do fireworks! Shhhh...they were the illegal ones we picked up on our way through Oklahoma. Well, nothing big, just sparklers and fountains. But the kids (especially Gabe) enjoyed the fire works. Elisa was a little too sleepy. We let her hold a sparkler and the silly little girl decided to touch it. She cried and fussed and fussed and cried and wouldn't stop talking about the "owie" on her finger for the next couple days thereafter. Poor little thing.
What a big day! You should come to some of our parades in the fall like this Sat. where they give out tons of candy! Elisa was brave to hold a sparkler. To this day Makayla doesn't care for the 4th, and has never wanted to hold a sparkler!
