We left the house around noon. It was a 4-hour drive to our vacation rental house. The kids stayed pretty quiet since they all were preoccupied with their tablets. We got to the house, but no one was there yet. Erik left to get dinner at Big John’s Texas BBQ. While Erik was gone, grandma and grandpa arrived. The kids were excited! Erik came back with the delicious bbq. After stuffing our faces, we all just hung out for a while. The kids watched spongebob, and I read a book. Then Makayla and Bryce showed up, and we played a game of 6 Crowns and chatted and told silly jokes. There were also donuts that we enjoyed. It was late when we put the kids to bed in the bunkbeds, after 10:00.

After a rough nights sleep (for me anyway), we got up, got ready for the day and ate breakfast (leftover Lamars donuts for me). Our first stop of the day was Horseshoe Bend. It was a quick drive, and a .6 mile hike to the bend. The view of the river and canyon was beautiful and surreal—almost like looking at a 3D painting but even better since it’s real life! It was really cool to see and the water was so clear that we could see the bottom of the canyon wall that extended into the water. There were some girls taking pictures of themselves on the very edge and making me nervous but other than that I think we quite enjoyed seeing Horseshoe Bend.
Ian took this video of us driving around in Page AZHorseshoe Bend. There was a picture of it on the wall of the rental home we stayed in. It is of course, much more impressive in person
On the hike back to the car, Ian stopped to take off his shoes at a covered bench. Some of us sat down, while Gabe chased a little lizard. He was too timid to actually catch it, but Bryce caught it! Elisa was even given the chance to “hold” the lizard—i.e. let the lizard hang out on her arm.

A very cute little boy
Having fun with that silly lizard
Our next stop was the bridge over the Glen Canyon dam. We just parked the car and walked along the bridge to look at the dam. It was a lot deeper than I thought it would be. We also crossed the street to see the other side of the dam. Then we went back to the house and ate leftovers for lunch.
Its scarier in person. Very deep and disorienting, but still very neat.

After lunch most of us got our swimsuits on and we drove to Lake Powell, the Wahweep Bay part. I didn’t care to swim much, so I sat in the sand and chatted and watched the kids have the time of their lives. They liked swimming (too cold for me), finding little shells, and playing in the sand. Elisa even got buried by grandpa in the sand! It was kind of a hike back to the car, we almost lost grandma there!
It was a long hike down, and an even longer hike up. Grandma barely made it!
The colors of the rock and river created a beautiful picture at Horseshoe Bend. Hiking back to the car from the lake I was carrying lots of things because Rick went on ahead empty-handed. Even though I was the last one to the car doesn't mean I almost didn't make it. Ha, Ha! Grandpa always gets the kids in trouble with his shenanigans.
