Ian had breakfast with us in the main dining room this morning. I had a chorizo breakfast burrito minus the chorizo. Erik and Marsha both had omelets, but I think their orders got mixed up. The captain announced that we would not be going to the Tracy Arm Fjord since it was too foggy, and the buoy marking the path had been submerged. We arrived early to Juneau, so we got off the ship before noon. It rained most of the morning, so we got wet walking into town. The first thing we did was browse a shop full of Alaskan souvenirs. There was lots of jewelry in the shop that Isabelle and Elisa enjoyed looking at. Gabe showed me his coupon book that advertised a free coin at a Miner’s Gem store if you tried on some jewelry. I tried on a ring and got the coin for Gabe. After looking around the shop and buying nothing, we got tickets to ride the gondola tram up to the observation deck. It was a scenic but steep ride to the top, and my ears were popping the whole ride up.
After riding the tram back down, the Parks decided to go back to the ship. The rest of us tried Tracy's King Crab Legs. There was a long line, and it was quite expensive. We almost didn’t find a table, but it was pretty darn yummy. I was surprised that all the kids ate the crab, but I think they were really hungry!
After finishing our crab, we walked up Main Street through some shops. We bought some fudge, hot sauce, and a pressed penny. I tried to get another free gold coin for Gabe, but, alas, they were all out. Justin and Isabelle found us on their way back from the state capitol. I guess they came back after dropping everyone else off at the ship. We walked a few blocks farther up to the state capitol building and an old Russian Orthodox Church that was built in 1894. We walked back to the bus stop and rode the bus back to the ship.
The theme for dinner was Asian food. I had a shrimp cocktail and the Tom Yum soup for my appetizer. The soup was actually not too bad. I also ordered the Kung Pao chicken, passion fruit cake, and mango tapioca pearl. The cake was good, but I could have gone without the mango tapioca. Erik and I sat at the small table and chatted with Lindsay and Justin.
After dinner, the four of us went to the Schooner Bar for a movie quote trivia. The host was from Brazil, so we mostly spoke with her about the answers. We were the only group that did the trivia so I guess we won! Erik stayed for more movie trivia with his parents while I went back to the state room for a nap. Next, Erik and I listened to the jazz band and singers perform some jazz songs. Then Erik and Ian went to the helicopter pad and took some pictures of the beautiful sunset. After that, we went to the Windjammer café for some cookies and bland desserts and then to bed.
