Halloweening 2024

Here are the fun, Halloween-themed activities we did in October:

The evening of Oct. 19 was when the Halloween recital was scheduled at Riverton pianos. I had a handful of students playing, but not very many. On the way to the recital, I got a phone call from my student's parent and then the employee of Riverton pianos saying that there was no concert at 7:00. The 7:00 show had been canceled since too few students signed up to play. I was told an email had been sent out. Well, I never got the email. That's something I would have definitely remembered if I did. A call would have been nice, too. They graciously allowed us to have the recital there anyway. It all turned out alright. Although there wasn't any pomp around the recital like there would have been, at least the recital was over in about 10 minutes! The shortest recital ever!

Bower's performance was stunning!

Miss Portia's duet with me. Her family couldn't come, but she still wanted to play so we gave her a ride.

After the recital, we drove to a frozen yogurt place by our house, and let the kids pick out their flavors and toppings. They all seemed to have a great time!

Yummy frozen yogurt!

Being silly around a tree.

October 25 was our ward Halloween party. Since I was in the Young Women's presidency, I was put in charge of one of the games, a ring toss. It ended up not being a ring toss at all, but a throw-a-pumpkin-into-a-basket-and-hope-it-doesn't-break game. The youth were in charge of manning the games, so I didn't do anything other than provide the supplies. Gabe helped out with the cake walk and Elisa wandered around with her friend Lily. Ian ran around with James, and Erik had to work late so he didn't show up until the very end when it was almost over. I wandered around, chatted, and sat with Elisa and her friend while we ate some chili. There was line dancing and games with prizes for the kids. Speaking of chili, Erik made a smoked no-bean (Texas) chili and won the chili cookoff! He wasn't there to accept the award, but I was. It was an ugly oven mitt and a cookie mix.

Face painting. I took a picture of Gabe at the cake walk, but it came out too fuzzy.

Me and my boo-boo. I was a sparkly witch person.

Halloween night! Our neighborhood starts trick-or-treating when it gets dark, around 7:00. I passed out candy for most of the evening. Ian went off with James, Elisa with Jayde, and Gabe by himself. Erik came home from work in the middle of Trick or Treating. My dad was over for a visit so he helped give out candy, we just plop our butts down on some camping chairs on the driveway and the trick or treaters come up to us. Our neighboors down the rode always have a taco bar, so I didn't even make dinner I just stopped by and that was my dinner!

Gabe made his own costume, he was

Erik grew a beard so he could be Dr. Demento. Alas, hardly anyone recognized his costume. They all thought he was a magician or Abraham Lincoln.

Ian and his friend James. Ian was a video game character and James was a porcupine

Jayde, Elisa, and some other loud girl. Elisa went as Melanie Martinez.

Me and my gwilly.

Mr. Skeleton played the organ for the neighborhood again!

  1. Ian played that nice song very well at the recital. Congrats to Erik for winning the Chili Cook-off. He looks kind of like a Jewish Rabbi in his Dr. costume. Everyone looks good in their creative costumes.
