France: Day 7 - Part 1, Pere Lachaise Cemetary and the Eiffel Tower

Friday, May 29, 2026

We left the windows open so it cooled off enough so that we could sleep. In the morning, we took our time getting ready, ate breakfast, and then headed out the door around 11am to drive back to Paris. Our first stop was the cemetery, Pere Lachaise. There were saw Chopin’s grave. Seeing Chopin’s grave was something I really wanted to do. Jim Morrison’s grave was also there, and so was Oscar Wilde’s. It was an old cemetery with cool-looking tombs, so I don’t think anyone minded walking through it, even if we were there on account of me wanting to see Chopin’s grave.

Ian and I in front of the grave. Someday Ian will play some Chopin.

A few different angles of the grave. His heart is buried somewhere in Poland.

After visiting the cemetery, we stopped at a nearby restaurant: L’ami Justin. It was pretty yummy. I ordered the croque madame, Erik ordered salmon linguine, and the boys ordered hamburgers. Elisa shared a plate with Grandpa and also shared her creme brûlée with everyone.

So yummy!

French hamburgers are pretty good

This girl ordered Creme Brule at almost every restaurant!

Then we found some parking near the Eiffel tower. While we waited for Grandma, Grandpa and Gabe (grandpa, who was driving missed the garage entrance the first time around), walked along the street where there were shops set up alongside, but we didn’t buy anything. Then we met up with Grandma, Grandpa, and Gabe and walked over to the Eiffel Tower. It was as big as I expected it to be but way browner. For some reason I thought the tower would be black...nope, it is quite brown. There were steps to climb up to a few levels, but no one wanted to climb, me included. We just took pictures in front of it.

Here she is!

  1. I'm glad we didn't climb the stairs this time, but there is a nice view of the Seine River and many old buildings. In 1986 we stood directly under the tower to take a picture which was very much a geometric design. There wasn't a fence around it and we didn't walk way down on the grass for a picture either.
