San Fran Trip Part IV: Point Lobos Preserve and The Exit

And now for our last post from our San Franscisco trip:
Our hotel had a (very) small pool on the second floor. The kids ran to the pool almost every day when we got back to the hotel. There was a sauna too, but the kids didn't like that quite as much.

We left the hotel Friday morning and traveled along the coast towards Point Lobos Preserve. We stopped at Panda Express on the way for lunch. The preserve has a few lookout points and hikes for exploring the area. We could hear a lot of noisy seals hanging out at the preserve, but we only got pictures of the sleeping sea lions. The sign said that different types of whales could be seen at the preserve throughout the year, but we didn't see any.
Cute fancy hair for Elisa!

Silly Ian! He likes Panda Express.

Elisa loved looking at the various shells, crabs, urchins, and little fish in the pockets of water among the rocks

We hiked up along the coastline to see the sea lions.

Several beached sea lions were sleeping on this island. They hardly moved the entire time that we were there.

Point lobos was so pretty! Elisa kept looking for mermaids, but they never showed.

We spent the night in Ontario to avoid the LA traffic. Since it was almost the end of March, Grandma and Grandpa give Gabe and Erik their presents. Instead of cake, we went to Krispy Kreme to buy some donuts for the birthday boys.

Elisa never leaves Grandpa alone, even at Krispy Kreme.

While driving through Palm Desert, we saw a billboard advertising Dole Whip Floats at an ice cream store. After searching for a while, we found Lappert's Ice Cream. We ordered a Dole Whip Float and a date shake. Erik always talks about stopping for a date shake in Dateland, but Dateland is between Phoenix and Yuma. Luckily we found Lappert's, so we can have a date shake anytime we go to Califofnia. And we won't have to wait in line for hours at Disneyland for a Dole Whip Float!

The kids enjoyed the Dole Whip Float.

Ian enjoying the date shake. It tasted carmelly.

  1. It was a very nice hotel, and the pool was like a large hot tub. Point Lobos was an interesting place for the kids. It's good that we were able to see the ocean and sea life on the trip. I need to try a date shake sometime.
