We hung around the condo for a few hours in the morning and ate breakfast, including some of Elisa’s dragonfruit we bought the night before (pretty bland, tasted vaguely like a beet) and another pineapple. Then we put our swimsuits on and walked to the beach. Our condo was conveniently close to the beach. There were chairs and umbrellas that we could borrow to take to the beach. The waves were pretty choppy at this beach since it was so windy. I swam for a while, but I got too chilly, so I was done—but the kids weren’t. They enjoyed digging holes in the sand and then went back in the water to rinse off. Erik was worried that they’d get sunburned if we stayed any longer, so we walked back to our hotel room.
After changing and hanging around the condo for a bit, we left for Paia Fish Market for lunch. Elisa and I shared a blackened salmon plate. I thought food was good, but Erik said it wasn’t as good as it was before. After lunch we got some dessert at Sugar Beach Bake Shop and Ululani Shave Ice. We all shared a small lilikoi lime pie from the bake shop. Then we waited in a long line for our shave ice. Ululani's puts ice cream underneath the shave ice and sweetened condensed milk on the top.
Our last stop of the day was Costco. We went for something to do more than anything else. Elisa and I picked out a few Hawaiian treats, a luau shirt for Gabe, and a Sarong for Elisa, as neither one had anything to wear to the luau. On our way back to the condo, we stopped by Maui Pie to pick up a chocolate haupia pie for later. We didn’t go out for dinner, just munched on pineapple and random stuff we had at the hotel, including pie. The kids spent most of their time in their room watching The Simpsons Halloween episodes.
The Iao Valley was beautiful and green. The uniquely shaped needle reminded me of the two pointed mountains on St. Lucia.
