Fun Stuff With the Blaylocks Part II (Flagstaff + Local Ghost?)

April 3. Last year, we went up to Sedona and had so much fun. This year we decided to go up to Flagstaff. The girls came this time, but Gabe didn't.
We decided to do a hike. In my mind, it would be a beautiful hike through the pine trees. I took no thought to looking at the weather. Big mistake. It was freezing cold up there. So cold in fact, that people were skiing. The trail head was just below the ski lodge. We stopped at the ski lodge for a potty break and to get my bearings since I wasn't exactly sure where the trail head was located. I felt very out of place, being in shorts and a T-shirt while everyone else around us was dressed in winter gear. After using the bathroom, we piled back in the car and I found the trailhead. We lasted just long enough from the van to the trailhead itself (maybe slightly further) before we decided that we just could not stand the cold anymore and we all went back to the van.

A hike was attempted; we turned back before the hypothermia got us.

We were getting hungry, so it was time for lunch. Lisa chose pizza, so we went to a Pizzicletta's for some pizza. It was yummy, but we were also quite hungry! After pizza, Lisa stopped at a cookie place for a dozen cookies. I can't remember the name of the place, but the cookies were pretty good. Nothing that I can't bake at home though.

The pizza was pretty good.

Lisa was pretty excited to go through the Riordan Mansion. Me and the kids had already been year ago, but I was okay with going again. It's always interesting to learn about how people lived their lives years ago and to see all the old stuff still there. The kids mostly behaved themselves. Ian enjoyed doing a scavenger hunt and becoming a junior ranger.
There was a piano to play in the basement

Lisa and Calvin in front (or in back?) of the mansion.

Ian took the junior ranger pledge after finding all the items in the scavenger hunt.

On our way out of flagstaff, we stopped at McDonald's for some ice cream but they were unable to accept credit cards. I didn't have any cash, so Lisa had to pay. A fun day out overall.

Elisa was pretty excited about drawing all over herself, Ian, Aaliyah, and anyone who would let her with her body markers. Lisa requested that Elisa draw a huge back tattoo which came off all over her sheets, I told her it wouldn't last and I was right haha.

April 6
We dropped the girls off at the mall, meanwhile Lisa and I went out to lunch at Hash Kitchen. I don't think I will be back anytime soon. The prices were quite high, and our biscuits were overcooked. I should have sent them back, especially for that price. The food wasn't bad, just nothing special for how expensive it was.

April  6. Time for some ghost hunting! After I saw Lisa having fun with the dosing rods on our Ghost Tour, I ordered some on Amazon for Elisa to have fun with. Our first experience using them was on the canal trail just north of our house. Lisa walked with us there but didn't feel well so she turned around and went home. So, it was just me and the girls. Elisa was the one who held the rods most of the time. Aaliyah couldn't think of anything to ask/say, and I felt silly, so we let Elisa do the talking and rod holding. As we walked along the path, Elisa would ask "is anyone with us" and we would keep moving down when she got no answer (the rods would stay still/wouldn't move). About 1/3 of a mile down the path (I know because I run this trail during the day) Elisa got a "yes" answer (the rods swung inwards). She continued to get yes/no answers with the rods as she asked questions. Basically, we found an old lady ghost that is/was a local to this area. I couldn't find the right question to ask to find out why she's still hanging around. I can't remember all the questions Elisa asked. Meanwhile, I took pictures. Then I told Elisa to ask the ghost if she would be willing to show up for the picture. This is when it got really strange. As soon as I asked, the rods went in for a yes and I got a very large orb show up, next to another smaller one. Its not the orbs themselves I find creepy --although they are somewhat creepy just on their own--but the fact that I was taking picture after picture and didn't get anything until Elisa asked to take a picture with the ghost.

Aaliyah just went along for the experience; she didn't have a whole lot to say.

A few pictures of the spot we were talking with the ghost....with and without flash, just as the sun was setting.

A few seconds before asking the ghost to show up for the picture...

What the camera captured just after asking...

What do you think? Coincidental dust? Ghost? Something else....??

Lots of fun with the Blaylocks. I wish I would have taken more pictures. I took them to the airport the next day so they could get home.

  1. The Riordan Mansion was quite interesting. It's good that Ian wanted to play the piano there and became a Jr. Ranger.
