Gabe's First Pinewood Derby

The first week of April was Gabe's fist-ever Pinewood Derby race for Cub Scouts!  I'm not sure who was more excited about it: Erik or Gabe!  I think Erik was.  He spent hours planning, sawing, and carving the chunk of pinewood.  Gabe designed the car to look like a truck.  After Erik finally finished (with a broken arm!), I ruined it by taking off the wheels to paint it.  Whoops.
Gabe luckily wasn't in dead last place, but his car didn't perform has well as we hoped. The wheels were unbalanced, so the car was quite wobbly.  I guess the wheels should have been checked.  Actually, the car should have been painted before putting the wheels on.  Next year, we will make sure to paint the car and THEN put on the wheels.  In any case, Gabe had a lot of fun. Even Elisa had fun! Gabe received a certificate for "most original design".  He was pretty happy about that! I'm sure Gabe's car will do much better next year!
