10 Day Caribbean Cruise: Day 10 at Sea and Going Home

March 19, 2023

Our second to last breakfast in the main dining room. By now, the kids had their established places they enjoyed, and we went back to Schooner's Bar for morning trivia. Next was dingbat trivia: trying to decipher common phrases in symbols and codes. Following dingbat trivia, we made our own trivia questions, which turned out to be pretty easy for the group: how many symphonies did Beethoven make, what is the deepest stage of sleep, etc.

Another established routine was getting ice cream on the pool deck after lunch.

Elisa decided that she wanted to try the climbing wall. The adults finally gave in and played a few rounds of shuffleboard before heading back to Schooner bar for more trivia. We played progressive trivia, which we didn't win because we missed the first round. Actually, I'm pretty sure we still would have lost even if we had done the first round. We played another round of Beatles name that tune but didn't win this time. The Mosley clan walked right by us as they went to and from their Sunday services. We never did get our excuse straight for why we didn't join them: the kids didn't want to, too many people had gotten sick, we didn't ask the bishop for permission to give the sacrament to our family, take your pick. We grabbed a few papers with instructions on how to do dollar bill origami, but we didn't end up making any of them.

She made it to the top on the easy side.

Finally retired and playing shuffleboard on a cruise ship.

Our last dinner was supposed to be an amalgamation of all things Royal Caribbean, but it ended up being more of a Greek themed meal.

The kids thought it would be funny for everyone to stare at Grandma.

The final show was a comedy act by Bruce Gold. He did a few magic tricks too.

We got up and left our rooms as late as possible before heading to the main dining room for breakfast. We also tried to make breakfast last as long as possible since our flight didn't leave until the afternoon.

After checking in our luggage, we fed the kids a pizza at the airport. Grandma and Grandpa couldn't check in their luggage for a few more hours, so we waited with them outside of security. About an hour before our flight boarded, we got stuck in security and almost missed our flight. We all sat in separate seats on the plane to Austin.

At the Austin airport, Ian got lost and looked like he had been crying when Erik found him. Gabe looked like he had been crying too; he said he thought our flight had left without him. Elisa insisted that I buy her a guinea pig toy since the store wouldn't take cash. Erik bought us another acai bowl. Finally, we boarded our flight home to Phoenix.
Gabe's favorite way to end a vacation: riding the skytrain at the Phoenix Airport.

  1. I think I only got ice cream twice on this ship. The Beatles trivia was fun although I only knew some of the songs. Elisa is so good on the climbing wall. Our last nightly comedian was pretty funny. Good to get back on land.
