Spring Break in Mexico, Day 1: Getting There; Dinner at El Taj

Saturday, March 14, 2026

We woke up early and left the house about 7am. We bought breakfast at Wildflower grill at the airport. The flight was 3.5 hours long. I sat between Elisa and Ian, and I entertained myself by drawing in my sketchbook for most of the flight. We arrived at the Cancun airport about 3pm local time. Our leftovers from wildflower were confiscated at customs, but other than that and waiting for far too long for our rental car to be ready, no issues. We drove a half hour or so to our condo in Playa del Carmen at El Taj Beachfront and Oceanside Condos and Hotels. Parking was tight but our place was pretty nice. We even got our own personal hot tub. We hadn’t been there long before we decided to go out to eat for dinner at a restaurant on the premises right on the beach. I ordered shrimp ceviche with passionfruit lemonade. Ian ordered a hamburger, and Gabe ordered chicken Alfredo, both with orange Fanta to drink. Erik ordered an entire red snapper for him and Elisa to share, even though we all tried some. It was really yummy. After dinner, Erik, Ian, and I tried out our personal hot tub that was just above the condo. Erik and I walked to Avenida Quinta (Fifth Avenue) to get some pesos from the ATM to pay for the toll road the next day. We were able to see a little bit of the shops and restaurants that the area had to offer.

Ian is usually the first one to pack!

  1. Looks like fun eating near the beach and a private hot tub, too.
